Our Approach
The Urban Agriculture Program (UAP) at Champions in Service (CIS) provides youth ages 14–18 with hands-on learning experiences in urban agriculture, animal care, and sustainable landscaping. Participants engage in seasonal, skill-building activities while earning monthly stipends for their participation.
This is the first year CIS is offering UAP specifically for this age group, reflecting our commitment to creating meaningful opportunities for youth to build skills, confidence, and strong connections to their community. Youth receive mentorship and guidance from staff experienced in urban agriculture and environmental stewardship.

What We Do:
- Gardening (planting, watering, pruning, and seasonal maintenance)
- Garden construction (raised beds, planters, and structures)
- Animal care (chickens, rabbits, and other small animals)
- Native plants and sustainable environmental practices
- Participants also build essential life skills such as responsibility, teamwork, leadership, and problem-solving.
Why It Matters
Urban agriculture is more than growing food; it’s about growing people and communities. UAP is designed to:
- Empower youth through hands-on, experiential learning
- Promote healthy lifestyles and a connection to nature
- Provide economic support through stipends
- Strengthen community spaces and environmental awareness
By participating, youth contribute positively to their environment while gaining skills that support future educational and career pathways.
